Foxhole: Bashir placed on injured reserve
    December 14, 2005

    Panthers.com

Comments from Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox following the team's practice.

On injuries: Michael Gaines: ankle, questionable, did not practice. Mike Rucker: ankle, questionable, did not practice. DeShaun Foster: shoulder, probable. Ken Lucas: shoulder, probable. Dan Morgan: ankle, probable.

On roster moves: We've placed Idrees Bashir on IR and added Jermaine Hardy from our practice squad to the active roster. We've signed safety Billy Parker, a rookie out of William & Mary, to the practice squad. He was in Miami's camp and on their practice squad for a couple of weeks.

On the decision to place safety Idrees Bashir on injured reserve: It (hamstring) probably would require two to three weeks to get ready, and we just felt like we needed to bring up Jermaine.

On the state of the team: As we approached this fourth quarter of the season, we knew it wasn't going to be an easy road to hoe, and we came up short last week. This week, we've got another stiff test in Baton Rouge against the New Orleans Saints, a team that's beat us the last two times we've played them. I think that guys understand what's at stake, and we've just got to work this week to get better.

On keeping the team on an even keel emotionally: It's about getting better, each individual and as a football team. I think we've shown that we are capable of better than what we were a week ago, and we've got to prove that this Sunday.

On the danger of facing a team that has been inconsistent: They've got talented players. They've got good coaches. That's the challenge of the National Football League whenever you tee it up. It won't be any different this time around. Trust me, we don't go into games taking anybody lightly. It's just a matter of who executes, and we've got to improve in that area.

On playing in Tiger Stadium at Louisiana State University: We've researched it. We've talked to people that have been there about footwear to crowd noise. You've just got to show up and play.

On if he expects crowd noise to be a factor: We understand that their attendance has been about 35,000. Again, the field is going to be the same size, same width. We've just got to go play.

Um, was that question on us ( inconsistent) facing them (inconsistent) or them facing us?

    .. Or then again

... Or, then again, if you had a particularly tough rockfish (striped bass in N.C.), it may be a tough roe to hoe.

Whining to the media about playing time doesn't seem like it would work out with Fox. If Fox can be that bitchy about Proehl's stating that the O needed to be more aggressive, I'm certain that Bashir sealed his own fate by saying it was bullshit that Minter and Davis were going to be playing rather than he and Minter.

Thing is, earn a spot. McCree was a FS, and here he is. Starting at strong. Bashir has tons of talent, got by in Indy milking it along, and it just doesn't work that way. Hell, when Minter wouldn't practice at times down the stretch, Davis worked at FS ahead of Bashir. I don't know what got Idrees' head up his own ass, but he might've talked his way out of a career.

Could you find a source on that? I know you've mentioned it a couple of times, but I never saw it in print or online, so I was wondering if you knew where I should be looking.
