    yes,

problem I have is that he basically said you don't draft a guy like Newton at #1, but you have to draft him anyway.

Trico did not press him on that and should have

Yeah, caught that. What was interesting was looking at his board.

Wonder if anyone could find a pic of it and post it because it gives some good insight into the talent level of the draft overall.

You can see they seem to have the names split within a group to show how highly in the round each is rated.

Its notable he only has 2 QB's rated as first round talent. Newton up top with Gabbert in the middle. Tuna actually commented that he liked Newton alot, that what he acomplished, 2 national champs, coming back to beat Alabama, only 3-4 players in football history could do what he did that day. Thats some very high praise.

But he also made a point that nobody in the draft is a sure fire thing. There is no Elway in this class.

Tirico tried to make a point later on about he(cam) and others dont fit his 10 principles. To which Tuna brought up the whole Luck/Manning thing. But he also noted that sometimes its not possible for them to fit the principles, they leave as juniors and you cant control that.

When he addressed the Pat White thing you couldnt help but see the similarities with Armanti Edwards. We violated our principles and were paying dearly for it.

Some interesting things i recall from the board.

Amukamara over Peterson, seems he has PP rated in the middle of round 1.

JJ Watt as the top DE

    Nate Irvin the top ILB

Dareus over Fairley but Phil Taylor best fit for NT

I think he had Casey Matthews as a late 2 early 3

Mallet, Ponder and Locker in round 2

DJ Williams early 4th (id like that)

The depth is at DE and DT

He made the point about the percentages of QB's drafted making an impact and those that barely got on the field, the financial implications. But you have to take a QB early if he's there and you have the need. Other teams arent gonna wait for you. You got to have one, "if your waiting to see the robins the springs over".

BPA is great, unless the BPA's are redundant to your existing pieces in place.

I don't think Hurney's brilliant, but I also don't think he's clueless. Rivera, who does have input, understands that FA will open up, and I am sure--if Cam is the pick (and I don't know how much of it is Chico's pick), Ron will DEMAND a high-level of FA activity on the DL, OL and secondary. And, by what I can see, there is quality veteran talent in each of the three areas to save yourself from having to draft Dareus/Peterson.

Green is an absolute freak, but that's not a position of HIGH need, given the production from Gettis/LaFell.

Smitty not here, we need more. Even if AE steps up and contributes, not enough.

    DeAngelo Williams - 1st round, 2006
    Jonathan Stewart - 1st round, 2008

And if you don't think Hurney is clueless, then you clearly are. The evidence is both abundant and overwhelming. We're not talking about a guy who has made a couple of mistakes. He's made a litany of errors in a variety of areas that has taken a team with a solid core and turned it into a laughingstock.

There is far more and better veteran talent available at QB than at DT or CB.

Seriously? What did LaFell show? Meanwhile Gettis can run streak routes really well, but that's it. You don't count on James Jett to be a well-rounded receiver.

I do agree with this. I think receiver is a high need. Almost critical if we're going to be running the kind of O we're running, and let's face it...Smitty's gone.

    Hurney is a sociopath.

What he did in 2008 is proof. He stacked us with a very good RB and (until he was hurt) a dominant run-blocker at RT. Without those two pieces, the team would NOT have won the NFC South in 2008.

But, then, you slip to 7-9, largely because you wanted to cash-in, 2008. Everette Brown was a guy that they clearly liked, but he's been poor value for what was mortgaged.

He's reckless with regards to the draft process, and he needs to slow his roll.
