he said when they did it, he wouldn't fight it, but if he did in fact decide to file an appeal, wouldn't that put him back on the field until it was settled?

then he could serve the two-game weeks 3 & 4?

TO didn't play any while awaiting his appeal on the eagles suspension.

I bet it's a technicality the players union has to go through

Appeals? Not really, it's up to the player but given that this suspension is based on doing something the player knew was wrong I don't think he'll appeal.

if he were to appeal it, it would fracture the locker room. Especially since he has owned up to his mistake, said he was a broken man after it. he said all the right things, has done all the right things since.

If he appealed, he'd do more damage than he did to Lucas' nose.

I hope he sits. 1-1 after the first 2 games is good enough with 14 to play.

Besides, with Merriman "iffy" at best, I like Carolina's chances against the Bolts anyway.

I don't know. Sproles tore up the Seahags last night.

I wish Fox would rescind the suspension altogether. Win now. To hell with character and ethics.

Agreed. IMHO the fence would have already been mended if it had been an all-out fistfight between the two. It was a blind cheap shot, and his teammates won't forget that. An appeal would show Smitty cares for himself and his lost income more than the 52 players he works with.

Personally, I'm glad to see him taking responsibility for the matter, in spite of the cost.

Maybe they should call Henning back for two weeks and let him run the direct-snap "WE NO TRUST OUR QB" offense, given our shortage of WR's. We could even play Baz and give Jake a rest.

no.. an appeal with intent to postpone the suspension wouldn't affect things that way, like when pep appealed his just to change it to the last 4 games instead of in the middle

Hard to compare Pepp's suspension to Smitty's. Pepp violated substance policy rules, and his suspension was handed out by the league. Peppers hurt himself, and the team, by taking something he shouldn't have.

Smitty's sucker punch was a direct violation of the family code. You could wrestle with your brother as a kid, and things are cool. Sock him in the eye/nose when he wasn't looking--it would take a while for him to forgive you, and for you to be able to sit after the ass-whipping youre parents would have dished out.
