Panthers | Peppers fires back at Umenyiora
Thu, 5 Jan 2006 15:45:35 -0800

The Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers DL Julius Peppers fired back at New York Giants DL Osi Umenyiora on Thursday, Jan. 5. Peppers initially said "No Comment" when asked about it, but finally snapped. Peppers said, "I mean, he ain't going to button up his chin strap and get in front of me, so it doesn't really matter. If he was, he wouldn't be talking like that." Umenyiora said Wednesday, Jan. 4, that the Panthers have the second-best defensive end tandem in the league behind the Giants.

Peppers, Rucker respond to Giants.

Carolina Panthers defensive ends Julius Peppers and Mike Rucker tried to downplay comments by New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora on Thursday, but it was obvious the words struck a chord.

Umenyiora laughingly told the New York media Wednesday that he and Michael Strahan were the NFL's best combination of defensive ends.
Peppers and Rucker at first tried to brush off the comments, but weren't able to completely let them slide.

"I mean, he ain't going to button up his chin strap and get in front of me, so it doesn't really matter," Peppers said. "If he was, he wouldn't be talking like that."

Arguing about bragging rights is nothing new for the Carolina defensive line. The Panthers front four was involved in a war of words with former Tampa Bay defensive tackle Warren Sapp two years ago. Rucker implied that Umenyiora's volley shows the Panthers serve as a measuring stick for the rest of the league.

"So you wonder why they always come to us," Rucker said.
Peppers and Rucker wouldn't proclaim themselves the league's best duo and said they'll let their play Sunday do the talking. But safety Mike Minter cast a vote for his teammates.

"I know what we have," Minter said. "A lot of people don't know what we have and they're going to get to find out on Sunday."

What do the Panthers have?

"We have the best two defensive ends in the game," Minter said. "That's what we have."

uhhh....from a production standpoint they are quite a bit better than Rucker and Peppers

fuck yeah, get mad
honestly, thats all he needs to do to go from good to freakishly scary

...maybe he will drink motor oil like that dude in 'Over the Top' and then roundhouse his way to the quarterback

More sacks <> more production

more sacks, more tackles, more passes defended, more forced fumbles
...but along with the other 9 on defense, aren`t they like 23rd in the league?
