Jaguars | Team lands B. Williams
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 14:22:21 -0800

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports free agent CB Brian Williams (Vikings) has agreed to a six-year, $32 million deal that includes a $10 million signing bonus with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to a league source. Interestingly, Williams will be reunited with former Vikings head coach Mike Tice, now an assistant for the Jaguars.
Fuck, that's almost Lucas money. Brian Williams << Ken Lucas

Jags got taken to the woodshed.

I don't think Jurevicius is a #2. He's more likely a #3 WR, but I agree that the price is reasonable and I would have been fine with us offering that contract even though I didn't particularly want him.

And yeah, teams are going crazy with all this money. It's stupid and short-sighted because there isn't going to be much of a cap increase from this season to next. Teams that don't overpay now will be able to dominate the next crop of free agents.

HUTCHINSON SIGNS "MONSTER" OFFER SHEET IN MINNY

A league source tells us that the Minnesota Vikings have signed Seahawks guard Steve Hutchinson to a "monster" offer sheet.

The Seahawks placed the transition tag on Hutchinson, giving them the right to match any offers made by another team. They'll have seven days to decide. If they choose not to match, they receive no compensation.

Our guess is that the Vikings crafted an offer aimed at dissuading the Seahawks from matching, perhaps with a huge 2006 roster bonus due a day or two after the deal is signed.

If Hutchinson lands in Minnesota, he'll land between perennial Pro Bowler Matt Birk and budding Pro Bowler Bryant McKinnie.
