Eagles | Team ready to add Bentley
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 05:41:25 -0800

Mark Eckel, of the Trenton Times, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a deal with free agent OL LeCharles Bentley (Saints). A key member of another team, which also was interested in Bentley, said the Eagles had a deal in place with the center for close to a week, and waited through the several delays to the start of free agency. All the terms of Bentley's deal are not known, but according to the source he will earn a guaranteed $17.5 million over the first three years of the contract. More than half of that money will come in either a signing bonus, a roster bonus or a combination of both. The Eagles are expected to play Bentley at center.

that deal is going to make it hard for them to keep Owens

Browns | Bentley on way to Cleveland
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 09:14:55 -0800

610 WIP Sports Radio in Philadelphia reports free agent C LeCharles Bentley (Saints) is on his way to Cleveland to visit the Cleveland Browns. It was earlier reported that Bentley had already agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and there was a rumor that he was going to visit the Eagles on Saturday, March 11.

Wahle got $11.5 million in bonuses, but yeah, $17 million would be unreasonable for Bentley. The thing is, I don't think the article is phrased correctly. I think it was trying to say that the first three years of the contract would be for $17 million, not that it would all be bonus, because bonus wouldn't just be limited to the first three years of the contract. If my read on that is correct, then it would actually less than what Wahle signed for over the first three years of his contract ($17.8 million).

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Cleveland Browns have agreed in principle to a contract with free agent OT Kevin Shaffer (Falcons). While details need to be worked out on Shaffer's contract, it will be a seven-year deal worth more than $5 million a year.
