Need some Jazz music suggestions

Mags or any other Jazz efficianados. My wife and I went out last night to Rock Hill and listened to some nice Jazz and Blues at some festival. My wife loves Jazz and me the Blues. Can you off some suggestions of newer artist that are not too out there, more traditionalist sounding for purchase.

It's hard to go wrong with Miles Davis, it's artistic but it has commercial appeal. Some of his stuff has John Coltrane on it, which is a necessity.
Kind of Blue is a classic, with Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley on horns and Bill Evans on piano. Great solos, great layers, early modal improv.

A lot of Coltrane's own stuff might be a little further out there, but a good starter suggestion might be My Favorite Things or Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane.

Gerry Mulligan's usually a pretty sure bet for lighter fare. Most of his stuff is fairly even, so just pick one you like. I really love the shit out of Clifford Brown, but I don't know how she feels about uptempo bebop, so if you got some of his stuff, get it solo, not with Max Roach.

As for newer stuff, I can't suggest anything. Can't really say I listen to too many artists who aren't dead.

I can't suggest any newer artists for a novice listener either. 'Course it all depends on your definition of "new;" mine's in the last ten years or so.

THE DAVE BRUBECK QUARTET-THE GREAT CONCERTS(almost a must-have, IMO)
JOHN COLTRANE & JOHNNY HARTMAN(really, really "nice" vocal with modern, not crossover, sax)
STANDARDS, VOL.1---Keith Jarrett(piano trio)

Agree with Miles Davis.
Agree with John Coltrane, he was/is revolutionary - his "wall of sound" might throw someone who is just being exposed to jazz, but excellent.

Newer stuff, but still like 15 years old is Wynton Marsalis, Standard Time vols I - III (this is for gettin jiggy wid it, especially Vol II "resolution of romance" I think it is called)

Ornette Coleman being espresso.

I've been digging me some grant green lately, and just ordered some Jimmy Smith. Might be a bit too funky to be mainstream.
