Eradicating a worm and trojan

I have at least one worm and a trojan(suppressing snickering) that AVG won't/can't recognize, and I've looked around and even downloaded some things that have proven to be a waste of time.
Is there anything that I can get for free to do the job? Or, do I need to buy an antivirus like McAfee(I hate McAfee), etc.?

virus sites often have specialized removal tools for particularly difficult to erase items. check them out.

how do you know what you've got if scans don't recognize it?


i use avast! home version which is free from alwil(?).

Stinger would work, but there's no assuarance it won't mess somethine else up too.

Cheapskates.
Find a friend with an older version of Norton, load it. Register it. Update once. Then go to the website and buy the latest at a reduced "previous customer" price.
I actually prefer NortonSystemworks 2003, I bought the 2005 recently and it wants to run a lot more crap in the background.

hell I always run Norton, but he was asking for a quick fix. That's what we gave.

i absolutely hate norton. can't stand it.

the office manager at work insisted on installing it and of course it comes with a million and one utilities to protect your from yourself. it interferes with sending long emails, it keeps asking question everytime something new happens on the machine, it adds wrinkles to the already sketchy windows networking layer...

that's why i went the way i did. i only want a virus checker, not "norton personal jail cell".

After I used AVG I noticed some files that I hadn't noticed before, then verified them here: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

I've since clicked "show viruses only" and three files showed as being such.
These three are viral: shell32.dll and user32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe. Sysinfo says one's a worm and one's a trojan.
Anyhow, AVG won't heal, delete, or send them to the virus vault; hence, my dilemma.

I'll look into avast.
I believe I'll pass on stinger for now, Brain, looks dangerous.

Norton is adjustable. I turn a lot of the monitors off just for those reasons, but its still the best.
