xp slow?

so my firend heard i was using win2k and told me i needed to upgrade to win xp pro. i finally did.

i was expecting things to be a bit faster but in reality, things seem noticably slower. it takes longer for my menus to react, it takes longer to launch ie, itunes playback is choppy if i'm doing pretty much anything else... it wasn't this way under 2k, what's the deal?

i was hestitant to go with xp because i thought it was just more bloatware and i guess maybe i was right.

might have a bunch of shit running. how much mem you have? actually win2k is much better performance wise. all the benchmark geeks use 2k to run scores.

it was an upgrade on a relatively clean win 2k (a couple months old).

it's not horribly slow, it's just really noticable with itunes... i've got a constant 3-5% drain from explorer.exe when the machine is idle.

i've got 512 meg. that might be part of the problem. i think i'll upgrade that. it's only a 1.7 mhz machine as well.
