Shortly after Windows XP was launched I saw on TV or somewhere that there is a way to go in to some file and change the command line so Windows XP does not "phone home" to make you activate after x number of days.

Does anybody know anything about this?

I'm not sure about that, I know similar cheats exist for say, changing a Win 98 Upgrade CD to a full version, etc., so it may exist. Have you tried looking on Google Groups?

I do know that if you an get a hold of of a copy of an XP Pro Corporate Edition CD, you're set. There's no activation process for that edition, as it was intended to be convenient for large organizations.....:D

I would like to know how / where / what to do so I do not have to go through the activation process again...

Is this it?

The new version of Windows called XP requires Internet activation during
the installation process in order to give it life. Of course many people
won't like that if they have more than one computer or need to evaluate it
before making a final decision, so here is the workaround:
Disconnect from the internet if you have cable or dsl access then
install XP, reboot in SAFE MODE (by pressing F8 during bootup) then run
Regedit (from Start/Run menu). When Regedit loads modify these 2 places:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
(change Activation Required value to zero)
Then go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion
(change RegDone value to 1)

I could not use a microscope because that wart I was showing your wife the other night has gotten so big it will not fit under the lense now.
