who is your early favorite to start opposite Smith.

    (I'm bored as shit)

Carter and Colbert have the edge in experience, but I'll say Carter. I'm hoping he adds a little more strength to his frame so he can be more effective over the middle. Fox hates rookies, so Jarrett has that working against him, but I still see him being a strong contributer in the redzone.

My vote is for Carter to step up. Smith and Carter- What an electric receiving duo. Both are Athletic, Fast as Hell and exciting with the ball in their hands.

we've had rooks start before when the incumbents have sucked. colbert sucks. i don't think Carter is starter material. so i'm rooting for Jarrett to win the job. he thinks he's the next Jerry Rice, which is good enough for me to hand him the job.

Carter is better as a third receiver. His speed makes him great for the long pass but he is not strong enough to be a starter and is inconsistent on short and medium routes. Colbert will have to prove it before I believe he can contribute anything. All we heard last year this time was how he played with an ankle injury in 2005 and that he would be good. Nothing ever came from that so I take a show me attitude. Robinson is a punt returner who will take some time to develop into to a starter on offense, if he ever does. I am going with Jarrett to start. He is a talented guy who was rated as a first round pick by many. He is a good compliment to Smith with his size and hands.

I see it as Smith and Jarrett starting with Carter seeing a good number of touches. Colbert will have to show something to see any playing time. Robinson may get in on some spread looks and run a few reverses or something from time to time.

    I vote Colbert.

I think the new offense is better suited for him, plus he's the more physical of the group and he'll be in more on running plays. Carter is more dangerous coming in as the 3rd or 4th and going deep. Jarrett & Carter will get playing time opposite Smith, but Colbert will be the clear #2 to start the season.

If that does happen then it means Davidson loves him and Henning hated his guts. He was buried on the depth chart last year so deep he might as well been on the practice squad.

When Smith came back from injury, Keary was on the field about as often as Carter. He could have done better, no question. I agree with Thelt about the show-me approach. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon again, only to be disappointed again. If he moves into the starting role and plays like he did in '04, that would be terrific, but I'm not holding my breath.

Drew needs to be more consistant and stronger, be more effective in the middle of the field and do a better job of attacking the ball. He's pretty much been a sideline guy, but we'll need more out of him if he's a full-time starter.

I hope Jarrett is working with a speed coach this offseason, instead of sitting around and lifting a few weights. He should be a solid player for years if we coach him right, and we have a very good WR coach to help him along.

So I think Carter will start, technically, but we'll probably have an even distribution between him, the other WR's and the RB's.

    ...and another thing

Assuming Smith gets doubled on virtually every play, the second and third wide receivers obviously have extra opportunities to get open -- if they have the desire and ability. And, oh yes, did anyone ever mention those all-important second and third receivers working combo patterns with a very strange entity called the tight end in most camps???
