WHAT WE LEARNED
All the Panthers' WR depth is on one side. They're stacked up at the Z, or strong side wideout, with Muhsin Muhammad, D.J. Hackett and Dwayne Jarrett lined up there. The X, or weakside wideout, is the province of Smith and injured Ryne Robinson.
They try to work all their receivers at multiple spots, but other than Smith, the closest thing to an established X is former practice-squader Jason Carter. He's also getting all the punt return work with Robinson out, increasing his chances of hanging around the first two weeks and beyond.

Does that make Jason Carter a lock to make the team?

He might stick until Smith's suspension is over.

Someone you might have thought would make it won't because of this.

not playing the slot doesn't make him worthless.

It'd be nice if he was beating out Carter, though.

WHat makes him worthless is the fact that he's shown nothing but his ass, so far. Carter being a factor just makes it look worse.

I love how everyone gives up on Jarrett after one bad year, when most receivers don't do anything as rookies. Is it that everyone wishes we were giving Colbert his 3rd shot at recapturing his rookie form? I mean he kicked ass that year and Jarrett didn't do shit his rookie year.

Maybe the fact that the team felt the need to sign two free agent wide outs in the off season and the fact that Jarrett is fourth on the depth chart, at best, makes people think he sucks.

Jarrett doesn't suck like Colbert. He's got the physical tools. We added Moose and Hackett because we needed the depth, not because the team has given up on DJ. They just weren't going to hand the starting job over to a second year wideout, not with HurFox's job on the line this year.

People are stupid and reactionary. Don't expect them to think logically.
