Painful anniversary

Thursday marks the 10-year anniversary of the beginning of one of the ugliest chapters in Panthers franchise history.
Because on April 19, 1997, the Panthers used the 27th overall pick in the NFL Draft on Colorado WR Rae Carruth.
Having been there the day he was chosen, the day he was arrested for conspiracy to commit murder and through the entire aftermath, it still stands as the most puzzling episode I've ever covered. I'd go from the locker room to the courthouse each day, and I spent more time talking to detectives and lawyers and bail bondsmen than players and coaches and agents for a while there.
