Would you want Peyton Manning or Randy Moss?

If you were going to start a franchise and you had no talent and you had nothing counting against the cap would you want a guy like Manning or Moss? I think I probably would not. You tie up so much cap space that you can not build a complete team. The Vikings and Colts will probably always be half a team because they are invested so heavily in one player. Sure Manning is five times better than Delhomme but we can afford a defense to go with him.

I think eventually teams will realize this and stop over paying so much for individual players. If we stay strong and the Pats do too everyone will start to copy that formula. I bet Owens does not get nearly what he is hoping for.

Starting a franchise, as in from scratch?
Probably.

For one player, as long as that player was as credible as Manning, I'd attempt it. You can find roleplayers for various roles, but you're going to end up paying a quarterback. I can't think of a team in the last ten years that hasn't given a QB a somewhat outrageous contract. The Redskins, predictably, are offering their third.

Dont get me wrong I think Manning is the best QB in the league, he probably has been since his second year. I just do not think I would want his salary on my team. It is kinda like fantasy football. You always seem to do better if Tom Brady or John Kitna is your starter then if you have Manning or Culpepper. That usually means you have draft some good running backs and receivers and got a bargain QB. I really do not think a team has won a superbowl with the QB as their strength since 96 when the Packers won with Favre. Elway was past his prime and Terrell Davis was the heart of that team. Warner was good but Faulk was probably more important than him.
