Windows Virtual Memory

I keep getting a message pop up that says my virtual memory is too low and that windows is re-setting it. It doesn't seem to be a big deal but is there a simple setting I can change to keep it from popping up?

damn. pretty smart for a gastonite.

I get a run.dll error many teams as I am shutting down. I'm running XP home version.

anyidea how I can get rid of or fix that?

obviously I'm not too smart for a jamestownonian

damn, that's a hard one to troubleshoot. There's a ton of processes that uses that dll. You could start by trying to shut down anything that's not absolutely necessary that has an icon in the clock area (system tray).

Also check for spyware, adware, and whatever the plural for Virus is.

you probably have software creating a ram leak, one of those ram freeer upper programs should help. Like ram idle or one of them. Building a big ass excel spreadsheet?

no on the big spreadsheet. I'm not really running anything that should be a real memory hog.

Real Player seems to be a problem - I never use it - I need to just cut it loose. Maybe thats the culprit - its in the tray.

Are you using McAfee? I had that problem on a win98 machine that had McAfee installed. Seems the virus protection would kick in everytime I tried to shut down and gave me the run.dll error. I uninstalled the software and had no more problems.

you might just not have a lot of RAM, be playing large games, editing large pictures, etc. Just increase the swap file space yourself (see on-line help) a significant amount, or buy more RAM.

I tend to cut anything that has an agent or host program like that. Winzip, Winamp are two others that I can think of, that want to work in the background. To hell with that. I can wait an extra couple seconds for something to open without it being a bother the rest of the time.

But the swap file size is ultimately going to fix it, unless it's something out of the ordinary. When setting it, make sure to set max and min to the same values.
