Why did we abandon the run game

After the first drive we stopped running the ball. We made it to the playoffs on the back of Deangelo Williams but after the first drive we stopped using him. Did he get hurt or something? I am sure it was Arizona's goal to stop the run game and make Jake try to be beat them but they did not have to worry about it because we did it for them. Jake certainly sucked but why did they put the game in his hands right off the bat?

What's missing in this entire thread is the analysis of the Arizona defensive alignment and what looks they showed pre-snap.

From my vantage point, they were playing 8 in the box, walking up the SS almost every snap, and Dansby and Hayes were aggressively filling the holes (run blitz) often.

On DeAngelo's long run on our first posession, we broke through the line and got a good gain, but you can't consistently block 8 with 7.

So I thought the playcalling was very good. Alot of playaction, and enough running to keep them honest.

It was the execution that sucked ass.
