Delhomme, who spent the past five years as a backup in New Orleans, finished 12-of-20 for 122 yards passing with two interceptions and touchdown passes of 13 yards to Muhammad and 24 yards to Steve Smith.

But it may not have been enough to earn him the starting job next week against defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay.

``We needed to do something to spark our offense and I thought Jake did an outstanding job,'' Fox said. ``We are going to enjoy this win and make decisions later.''

For the entire first half, Del Rio and the Jaguars had Carolina on its heels as the 37-year-old Peete could not have played worse.

He handed off on the first play of the game to Davis, who gained 20 yards for Carolina's only first down of the half. After that, he was sacked three times, went 4-for-10 for 19 yards and led the Panthers to a total of 36 yards.

``That wasn't Rodney's fault, we were just awful -- all of us,'' Davis said.

But Peete admitted his starting days might be over.

``It's hard to discount what he did in there in the second half,'' Peete said. ``I still have confidence in what I can do for this football team ... but you've got to go with what happened.''

I just think that wasn't the time or place. By Tuesday Jake will be "officially" announced the starter.

Hope you're right. Obviously stats dont mean a thing or delhomme or Wienke would have started today. I will not be surprised to see Peete start again. pissed but not surprised

They may use Peete as a decoy. Let Tampa think Peete starts, then sub in Hommer.

I was HOPING they'd do that to DelRio...but it took 'em 2 quarters to do it and almost cost us the game!

This is not the preseason nor is it a baseball game where the manager walks slowly to the mound then signals to the bullpen. We need to decide on a QB that can get it done and let him practice with the first team. The Redskins did the "QB by committee" thing last year and they finished 7-9. Bench Peete...leave him there. If Jake gets hurt (God forbid) let Weinke do the job.

If they started Peete against Tampa, I have to figure it'd be a huge letdown to our own players.

and I would think the same on both sides of the ball, the defense was fired up to play even after Jake hit the int.

I also agree it wasn't the time or place. Why give Tampa more head start than we have to to study game film. Wait until the last possible day to announce Delhomme the starter
