ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Arizona Cardinals and unrestricted free agent QB Kurt Warner (Giants) have reached an agreement on a one-year deal. Financial terms were undisclosed. Warner is expected to be the team's starting quarterback for the 2005 season.

John Clayton of ESPN reports that two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner has signed with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will be Warner's third team in three seasons, and he brings some stability to a quarterback position that was riddled with inconsistency in 2004.

Warner signed a one-year, $4 million contract. Last year, he inked a two-year deal with the Giants, but the contract was structured to be a one-year deal with the cap charge for the signing bonus spread over two years. The cap-rich Cardinals need not worry about spreading the money, and Warner's full salary becomes guaranteed if he's on the roster come opening day.

The team's decision to permit Warner to sign a one-year deal only suggests that the veteran is a short-term fix only, which means that the Cards might be looking for their quarterback of the future in the upcoming draft.

Warner might do pretty well there. They have some good wideouts and the OL in not bad. They need to find a running back though.

I don't know what happened to Shipp? He played well for them for a couple years and fell off the face of the Earth last year. Emmit's swan song maybe?

Warner to Az makes sense for both parties, but he isn't going to be a very good mentor for a youngster...not his MO.

I wouldn't say he'd do anything to hinder thier development, but his intentions aren't to hold a clipboard. He kind of new the situation in NY and knew it was a chance to maybe get him a couple more years with a good showing.
Warner, as long as he is committed to being a starter, won't go somewhere to do anything but. That's why he never went to Chicago or Dallas, where there are young guys that those organizations have either hung thier future on or have already committed to as starters.
