Just thinking that. I doubt we make a move without bringing someone else in, which probably wouldn't be cost effective. According to what I'm reading, it seems like Wahle's $28 million entailed $11.1 million in base salary over five years, $7.5 million in yearly roster bonuses, and about another $9 million in signing bonus. Given that he's only on the hook for a $2 million base and $1 million roster bonus, we'd only save about $1.2 million by cutting him. 2008 looks like a more realistic departure date.

He was playing hurt, and I didn't think he was much of a problem while playing. I wouldn't cut him. We're overpaying, sure, but he's still a big centerpiece for the offensive line.

I'd like to see a cap hit/cap relief listing on all the starters and more than a few of the backups. The Saints had something close to 30 new players on their roster this year. With what some of these guys are being paid and the lack of production from them, it'd be real interesting should we follow their model.

yeah. Anything other than Pro Bowl is disappointing for a $6 mil/year lineman, but with a shoulder injury you can deal with that. I think we'd have looked better if we'd done more pulling in the 4-6 weeks before he went to IR than in the couple after.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. It feels like we've got a few too many sacred cows on this team. Too many guys taking up too much cap space because of production 2+ seasons removed.

They seemed to run better with him out than with him healthy. He hasn't been very impressive here.

this year, when they went to a mostly inside approach over the second half of the year, they weren't playing to his strengths; he was also without one arm basically. I still think he's a good enough player, though. It's hard to live up to that paycheck, and last year he did.

I would like to see us use him more like they did in Green Bay.

I vaguely thought I read something about him not being as successful in our oofense as he was in Green Bay because he was best suited to their scheme. Just a writer I think speculating when the signing first ocurred but maybe hit the nail on the head? Maybe same deal with Kemo? We go all out after someone who might not achieve the same level of success the way we use them? At least we haven't asked God to lure Gilbert out of retirement again..........yet.
