Vilma?

Nice...

PR, back-up QB, TE, depth at corner, MLB...and keep JP & SS

yep, that about sums up what I think too

A Vilma-type is what we need, but the Jets aren't trading him and he won't hit free agency for another three years.

He just made a pretty big gaffe in their playoff game going for the ball instead of sacking Brady.

(everybody makes mistakes though, good players aren't immune)

I kinda lobbied for Vilma till he shot so far up the charts. He got a lot of hype for that hit as a sophomore in one of the championship games, but nonetheless he was a very stout player and a guy who could take charge of a defense.

Regardless of the thought about Vilma specifically, I do believe an impact WLB would change this defense for the positive and having a Draft type player in there at MLB would be more than enough with two explosive OLB.

When NE was kicking the point after to go up 14 with plenty of time left, Vilma, on the snap, started walking to the sideline...didn't look for a fake, didn't attempt to block the kick.

I don't believe that to be common of him, but it pissed me off none the less.

MLB is the more pressing issue for us. Diggs has arguably been better than Draft, and when we've been gashed it's generally been because the MLB overpursued or was otherwise out of position. Draft was decent, but we need to be better.

I don't believe we need both. Diggs is a run-downs LB so it's not as if he's the better solution - he's just one of two guys who shouldn't be on the field in nickel. I'm fine with keeping Diggs instead, but over time Draft had more impact.

When we overpursued, it was all 3. Just like early in the season with Seward in there, just like early last season with completely different LBs, and just as with early 2004. I can't explain it, but it's the same situation.

All 3 did at times, true, but the WLB didn't as much once Diggs got back into the lineup and Draft certainly did it more often. Moreover, Draft being out of position was more critical since the times we got gashed were generally his fault. Note that I'm not saying he was our worst linebacker, just that our system depends on the MLB to be in those gaps and when he isn't, we get hurt.
