Most Seattle fans were pleasant. Gave me a hard time, but other than one guy that got himself kicked out, nothing bad. Some others were not as lucky.
To the game.
They really scouted us. First two series they crowded the line early, while doubling Smith. About half the time they had a very odd alignment, which I found out later was a linebacker covering Smitty, bumping him, and Trufant playing off coverage. That allowed them to double and at times triple Smith, and get physical with him off the line.
Our other recievers could not get open. That was the game right their. Our routes early didn't help, we ran a lot of short crosses and outes early which they crowded. Much like the Cowboys gameplan, except they were better vs the run and we got fewer big plays in the passing game. Prohel and Carter somewhat made up for a lack of Smith that game, we didn't get it this time.
Jake three picks were still bad, though we lose anyway because of above. First one was LATE, and into triple coverage where the MLB clearly followed his eyes. Second and third ones Jake just didn't get enough on them, their was some pressure, he was either hit or threw off his back foot again. He forced it where he shouldn't, but we were down. Biggest problem though was the lack of open targets in this game.
Defensively, Alexander made good use of cutback lanes against the grain. Sometimes he'd do that move and Spoon or Morgan would come up from the backside and throw his ass for a loss. When we missed or were out of position he took if for big yards. Nice to have a homerun threat. Buckner played well, our defensive line DID NOT get punked, we just missed some tackles and overpursued.
Peppers did in fact make some big plays this game, they were just in space against the grain. We did get some pressure, but Hassellback had great awareness and escapablity. But worse was the quick throws over the middle, which was our big weakness all year.
Lucas got beat three times on double moves. Its safe to say Hassellbeck knew his tendancies more than Luc knew his.
Bottom line is they scouted us and attacked our weak points with some things we may not have expected. When Goings went out that put a huge haymaker in our plans. We didn't seem to have an answer for what they were doing.
I'll say that I saw lots of effort by our guys till the end. We were beaten, outcoached and outplayed, out executed. But there was effort. From Julius running down a wideout 15 yards down the sideline, to Prohel diving after balls late, we fought. But they were better.
