Is there any salvaging that guy? All he needs to do is ball out just a little this season and he gets a big payday. It's like a contract year for him.

In a 3-4 front, it would make sense on paper to have Poe at NT, with Butler and Short playing the DE positions. The Linebackers would be Addison, Thompson, Keuchly, and Irvin. If Butler plays like he's flashed, our line could actually be pretty damned good. That seems like a big If though.

I don't think he's been that bad. He just hasn't been worth anything near a 1st round pick.

He'll probably be Poe's backup.

Isn't he more of a 3 Technique though? I know he's big enough to play nose, but haven't paid enough attention to notice if he's been lined up there much.

I'm reading all the scouting reports on him from when he was drafted, and he was considered a super versatile but raw guy who played best in the 3 but who could also slide inside or out. I'm not sure if he's been held back by being behind Short, but I don't think he's made much of a splash. I can see him doing well as a DE in a 3-4 front. I just hope he executes.

I wonder if all the talk about moving to a 3-4 is due to our personnel just being better suited for it right now. If Ealy and/or Hall had worked out, I doubt we would be considering it.

His fifth year option will likely be easily over 10 million. Contract year for him.
