Short and Armstead. ST players?
Darin Gantt:

TRULY SPECIAL: The Panthers have always taken great pride in their special teams, and have kept players with no other apparent utility (such as alleged wide receiver Karl Hankton) just to keep them strong. But when the roster is put together, special teams coach Scott O'Brien knows he's mostly working with the backup defensive backs, linebackers, fullbacks and tight ends.

This year, he could be dealing with some higher-pedigree players than normal.

With the Panthers signing former Pro Bowl linebacker Jessie Armstead to serve as insurance, and inking former Giants starter Brandon Short without the promise of the starting job, the Panthers could have some veteran players running down kicks next season.

Hurney said he didn't think either would have a problem with that, acknowledging they would be counted on in that area if they're not starting.

Short was a solid special teams player for the Giants before moving into the starting lineup, and Armstead's not above it either. During the Giants Super Bowl run in 2000, they were coming up short on special teams because of midseason injuries, so Armstead volunteered for the often-thankless duty.

ultimately, I think this is about Fields.

If he comes back and has a big year, great. But we are hedging our bets.

I'm afraid I agree with this one. Also concerning Morgan, I haven't seen a lot of players that had reoccurring concussions that didn't get progressively worse. I think these new LBs are good pickups IMO.

was it so much that morgan had multiple concussions, or just post concusssion syndrome? hopefully the new helmet and the mouthpiece will take care of that.

Morgan came to play playoff time, he was great. If he can play smarter, he'll be ok.

It's an expensive solution, but more certain. Hopefully, Fields can give us one more year. IF not, Short gives us competent if unspectarular play strong side.

He may very well have just had the post concussion syndrome. Once you have one the next one is easier to get and then the next one is even easier..... If he gets one he needs to get off the field until he is over it because then he is doing more harm than good.

it was PCS... he didn't get another concussion he wasn't over the affects of the first one when he tried to come back.
