Granted, Weis has his hands full. But helping Foxy and having his former offense look bad serves a dual purpose, and would give him mega-hype after going 3-0 with the Michigan State win that he obviously counted on a little too heavily.

So is it possible that Weis, talking with an old friend, might've noted that, hey, these two goobers running this offense aren't ready for exotic defenses?


How do the Panthers show the 3-4, the 46, a 6-2, when none of these things have been seen in 3 years and a game? We've literally never run this stuff. Up to now, our blitzes have been on the level of John Marshall - as in, throw a LB in a gap, and then have that one player go after the O's picked up on it and adjusted.

Suddenly, we're using the best of Dick LeBeau and Buddy Ryan, and I bet we don't see it much the rest of the season.

No. Not even the remotest possibility.

I'll review the tape when I get back home, but I don't think they really showed any of those things. We played a base 4-3 most of the game, with linebackers lining up at various places based on the blitzes that were called, and then we played some three down linemen nickel defense with more blitzes as well.

The 3-4 was true. Short standing up at the line, Peppers standing up at ROLB. That's a 3-4, no more, no less. You don't put down 3 linemen, stand up two guys outside of them, and write it off as a shift.

It's not just a 4-3 odd front with a LB standing at the line, which is standard.

We also blitzed Morgan inside other OLBs at the snap. We left no drop linebacker on a number of plays. That, to me, is an element of 46. We did a lot of this with man.

At any rate, I've seen no element of any of this, at any point in four seasons. By the way - most of this happened on first downs. The 3-4, I'm pretty sure, was on the first play of the Pats' 2nd posession, I can't remember any other looks of it specifically.

Either way is wasn't our usual vanilla 4-3 D. So I am happy with it.

I don't think any of those things. I do think it's coincidental that a "good friend" just happens to leave the Pats, and suddenly we can do things to them that we couldn't do with 2 full weeks to figure out, on the biggest game of the franchise.

I wondered about it too. and Weis may have told him some things - I kinda doubt it though.

As I understand it, NE is using a team approach on offense and Brady is a big part in the scheming. It's got to be alot more pressure on him and I think he misses Weis alot.
