Sorry if this was posted........but he does fill a need.

LB Hunter Hillenmeyer, Chicago (compensation: fifth round): Not a very flashy defender, but a solid strong-side backer who makes the play he is supposed to make, and is rarely out of position. Became a full-time starter in 2004 and has averaged 80.5 tackles the last two seasons. Only has 3½ sacks, but he can control the tight end and gets pretty good drops in the passing game.

a 5th is never that much of a price to pay, it's just a matter of what he wants to sign for.

Don't know much about him, but seemed to catch on down the stretch last year. I think it would be an upgrade, and he seems to fit the mold of what we want at the position.

Hillenmeyer would be an excellent addition, but price is the deciding factor. His price shouldn't be gawd aweful, and he is a solid young player who appears to be on the rise.

I don't know if I'd agree. A RFA with a minimum tender isn't an automatic improvement over Chris Draft or even Adam Seward. Maybe, but he'd have to earn it -- it's not a given that he'd start, IMO.

He's another one of those high effort guys that some of us love and some of us loathe. I don't know that he'd be an upgrade, but he'd be worth bringing in as another body if the price wasn't too high. That said, I think the Bears would match anything that wasn't unreasonable.

All I recall is that he's the dude whose tackle broke Foster's ankle.

Draft should be prioritized at middle linebacker because he's better at that position, and Morgan is liable to miss at least six games next year. That would leave us with Davis?, Seward, and Tufts. So it would definitely upgrade the position, and getting a solid starter is worth a fifth rounder, IMHO. But yes, I think Chicago would match any offer. Lovie likes him, form what I've read.

If we do not add anyone before the season I expect Draft to start at SLB with Seward as primary backup to Morgan. I think we will add someone to our mix though either in the draft or with a lower level free agent.
