This is something we might get to in 2019.

It's considered a 43 defense, but it's effectively a 52 with the SAM on the ball. TD is in his final season (I think). Haynes, if he develops, could play the Bruce Irvin hybrid role. Shaq would be the KJ Wright, with Luke playing Wagner's MIKE spot. Short is a natural 3 technique. Addison is the open side rush end. Maybe Gaulden can be the Earl Thomas. Bradberry would be a great fit in this system.

Speed. It's turning into a speed game, guys. Get guys on the field who can run sideline to sideline.

You're describing a 4-3 Under/Over front where the DE's (9 technique to the TE or a 5 technique away from the TE) reduce and either the Sam or Will LB's take up contain responsibilities while playing in a standing 9 technique or a standing 5 technique. This particular defense is used by teams who lack talent on their perimeter run defense. I find it to be an excellent situational defense when played into the boundaries and open sides of the field.

In terms of it "effectively being a 5-2" (Oakie) defense you would be correct only from the standpoint of how they line up, and that's not technically correct either. For example, in a 5-2 the Nose (0 technique) and Tackles (2,3,4i,4,5 technique) all play 2 gap schemes. In most scenarios, teams do not employ 2 gap responsibility in even front defenses (it's gap control). We discussed this some time back. Clearly you didn't pay attention, but keep trying.

You're not even a 49ers fan, as you admitted that you pull for whichever Bay Area team is winning. You're just a gay old man who loves Alex Smith.
