Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, reports there is a strong chance the Minnesota Vikings will work out WR Kevin Johnson (Browns) if he clears waivers. Johnson, who was cut by the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, Nov. 11, has until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to be claimed off waivers before he becomes a free agent.

Rob Demovsky, of PackersNews.com, reports the Green Bay Packers are trying to decide whether to put in a waiver claim on WR Kevin Johnson, who was cut by the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The team with the worst record to put a claim on Johnson gets the first chance to sign him. Several teams, some of whom have a worse record than the Packers, have expressed interest in Johnson.

Mike O'Hara, of the Detroit News, reports Detroit Lions President Matt Millen said the team is interested in looking at WR Kevin Johnson, whom the Cleveland Browns released on Tuesday, Nov. 11. "That's somebody who we'd be interested in, and somebody we'll look at real strong," Millen said. Millen, however, would not say if the team had put in a claim for Johnson. With a 3-6 record, the Lions rank sixth in line to claim him. If Johnson isn't claimed off of waivers by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, he would become a free agent.

ESPN News says the Jaguars put in a waiver claim and have been awarded his rights.

He never made it to free agency. They assume his existing contract.

ESPNews reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed WR Kevin Johnson (Browns) off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars signed receiver Kevin Johnson on Wednesday, a day after he was surprisingly released by the Cleveland Browns.

Johnson, who had led the Browns in receiving since 1999, will join a team that has been looking for answers at the receiver spot all season. To make room, Jacksonville cut J.J. Stokes, who was once viewed as a possible answer, but was a disappointment with only 13 catches.

The Jaguars also have journeymen Troy Edwards and Matt Hatchette on the roster.

Johnson might be better than both of them. The Browns certainly thought highly of him when they gave him a four-year contract extension with a $3.5 million signing bonus before last season.

Johnson was the team’s second overall pick when the Browns returned to the league in 1999. He led Cleveland with 41 catches for 381 yards this year, but had his starting job taken away by coach Butch Davis, who was unhappy with his play.
