Watching Sports center yesterday they were going over the ongoing negotiations about Lovie Smith's contract negotiations. Last years entire coaching staff payroll was around 5.2 million dollars. Their were several NFL head coaches that in excess of 5 million alone. They turned down Lovie's offer to be paid 4.3 million (or so) a year and now the going rate for someone like Smith is 5 million ( Jeff Fisher, Fox, Bellick among others). The Bears have lost 5 coaches already, the downside of being successful. The Bears need to wake up and step into modern day football and pay the man. If not someone will whisper into his ear with a lot more than 5 million next January when he is a "free agent"

The Bears apparently have a history of being cheap from way back. While some speculate that ANY coach could have gotten the Bears to where they went this season so Lovie has no leverage, the same people say he'll be well paid someplace else next year when his contract runs out.

Someone got everyone on the same page. I don't think Lovie has proven himself an outstanding coach, but I do think he's proven himself a good one. I think he's worth as much as Fox, Billick, and some others. I don't think he's asking for more than them. Dumb on Chicago's part.

Pay the man what he's worth. Got them to the SB with fucking Rex Grossman at QB. How many HC's could pull that off?

Bears are notorious for this.

Win SBXX

LB corps of Wlibur Marshall, Singletary, Otis Wilson.

Marshall asks for more dough as contract runs out--Bears refuse, Skins sign him to nice contract, Bears LB down the shitter.

Mike McCaskey is da debil in Chicago.

The Bears were pretty much cellar dwellers until Lovie got there. They had a decent year in 2001 but could not sustain it. They should pay Lovie. He has proven that he can build a defense good enough to win a lot of games with a bad offense.

Shit like this is the reason I became a Panther fan. It's just further proof of Mike McCaskey following the Chicago Cubs managment style.
