Sorry, just never thought I’d hear a fan say it.
Probably as much as any other element, the Panthers work extensively on their two-minute drill. When you play as many gut-wrenchers as they do, it’s a good idea.
Each week, Henning asks each of his three quarterbacks which plays they favor in the situation. Delhomme’s list is probably heavy Steve Smith, whereas Weinke’s lean toward Proehl had to do with other factors. The Lions were doubling Smith hard, determined to make someone else beat them. Proehl’s got enough savvy left to do so, and did. The Lions were also rushing five to hurry the backup, which made Proehl on an intermediate route a better bet than waiting for Smith or Rod Gardner to get deep.
God only knows what’s on rookie Stefan LeFors’ list. Since his favorite preseason target, Drew Carter, is never active, it would probably be 33 Run Around Like a Chicken With No Head, Everybody Go Long, on two.
