While Venables compared Samuel’s play-making ability to Jackson, Tigers coach Dabo Swinney sees similarities between Samuel and former Clemson star Sammy Watkins.

“They use him a lot like we used Sammy,” Swinney said. “He’s got some similar explosiveness, except they’ll put him in the backfield a little more, but he’s very comfortable being back there and running the ball. I've watched Samuel's tape enough to hate the pick. He is not an NFL wide receiver whether they line him up out there or not. He's a third down back who can be effectively motioned out because that forces a linebacker or safety to pick him up. If you line him up wide initially, that puts a corner on him and he doesn't have the route running to beat a corner.
