Smith up for award

You have got to be kidding. I'm glad he's having a great season, but the guy is an asshole and a horrible example for children. He should not be celebrated in that fashion or supported for any such accolades.

So you have a problem with a guy who acknowledges his fuck-ups, accepts responsibility for them, and makes ammends, all while being a poster child for "All things are possible through effort"? This particular award has nothing to do with on field stuff anyway.

The Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP program will recognize 17 NFL players during the 2008 season. The players have been selected based on their commitment to giving back to their local communities and for their dedication to community service.

On the list of 'Athletes who are horrible people whom children idolize' is Steve Smith really that high? Sure he's made mistakes, but he doesn't do drugs, have guns (Moose,) doesn't beat women or kill them (Carruth, Leonard Little,) get DUIs, I mean I could go on and on.

What does he do? Lose his temper and take out his frustrations with his fists.

We should be so lucky for a few more 'children' to take that path as opposed to the Rae Carruth path.

I'm not going to go as far as this, but the guy is a prick.

For the haters in the group,

What has Smitty done to you to make you feel as you do?

Just askin'

Exactly what I was thinking...I mean he didn't even have Lucas sign a waiver before their fight.

He's certainly screwed up quite a bit, but he is an example to kids in rough neighborhoods as someone who came out of that. Granted I'd rather have those kids wanting to aspire to something with better odds of success.

Even though he's shown the occasional lack of self discipline of his emotions, he is, ironically, an example of self discipline and hard work as far as establishing goals and then working hard to achieve them. That's what many kids need to hear - you want to be somebody, you want to go somewhere, then dream big and then work hard, every day, to get there.

Repeatedly sucker-punching teammates certainly makes him a bad example for kids. Plus I have been told by someone who claims to be involved with a youth organization that Steve Smith is not a good guy. Maybe they were lying or had a grudge, but I have no reason to think so.

Exactly. What I bring to the table lets most people tolerate my boorish behavior, but that doesn't mean that anyone should ignore it.
