Armed with coffee and an unwavering commitment to pissing mu day away, I've decided to rewatch the Shelton plays.

The first series of the second half was 4 plays, all of which went to Shelton. The first play he drew a pass interference.

The second he was swarmed by linemen behind the line of scrimmage - nowhere to go.

The thrid play same thing - gereeted by 2 d linemen behind the line - no way to break through that.

The thrid was a short pass that the caught and broke 2 tackles and almost made enough to get the first.

So far, better than i remember.

Shelton's next 2 carries looked a little weak. He just seemd kinda 'hesitant'. On the first one he seemed to lack vision, the second one nothing was there.

In all fairness, the camera perspective was bad, and he could've ran into a wall in both ccases.

I did notice what they've been saying about him though while at the game. He doesn't seem to get his body low and shoulders forward. The one time he looked low, it was more like a squat and back on his heels.

The game actually looks like it's probably still pretty fast to him, and that was his first live bullets so it's expected. But I like him a lot and I expect to see him a whole bunch this year.

For second round picks, though, compare him to Foster or any other 2nd round pick that's excelled (portis). The game didn't look fast to them their first preseason touch.

He sucks if you look at it that way.

yeah...Foster's first touch was like a 70 yard TD

where are you at in the game?

I'm sitting at 7-0, Drew Carter stopped at the 1 and Weinke called a T.O.

The next series was much better. He ran for 4 yards, lots of contact, 5 yards, all contact, and then a pitch on 3rd and one laying into people that would've been for 4 but was called back on a hold.

One thing is that he seems to lack initial 'burst'? It could be physical or that he's unsure of what to do.

But he looked powerful.

The next series is looking OK -got 2 on a no whole drive forward play. Then had the great physical tipped pass from lefors for about 15.

Next play was a pitch and he had NO CHANCE.

Next play gained about 4 up the gut hit by 2 lbs and fell forward .

Next play had his legs grabbed by a d lineman in mid air leaping over the line at goal and pulled back.

Is he slow?

yeah, he's slow. Granted, he timed around where Foster timed, but no, he's not as fast. The UL tapes show him running away from guys on long runs (some of them draws :imagestor ), moreso than punishing them. I think the "speed" of the game matters more to him because linebackers are as fast as he is.

The pass play encouraged. The blocking didn't help him. But sure, he's struggled, and he's gonna struggle some.

Thanks for the analysis.

RBs, esp those who don't have alot of shake and bake, sometimes take awhile to learn to makes reads, etc. Goings looked awful to me when he came. Now he has great vision. Shelton is not fast, and not explosive. Thus his vision will be very important. I suspect the fact he had no room may have been partly because he couldnt find the room. It is usually only in one spot, and appears and dissapears in a fraction of a second. As someone else said, S. Davis took awhile himself.
