Our secondary obviously needs some changes. I still like Lucas, he just seems to have lost some confidense and he hasn't been the force in the run game that he was last year and I chalk that up to injury. I hope he'll return to form next year.
How many years have we been saying we need a free safety. Can you get somebody that's good enough to play two years in a row that's worth paying to stay. I'm tired of this shotgun effect where we throw 3 or 4 players into the mix and go with the one that sucks the least. On that note, is it possible to make Gamble a free safety. I know he's won't be great supporting the run but I'm hoping he can cover a TE better than a WR. Anyway, it's just a thought because he's a problem at the other CB position. I wish we had Marshall's heart and attitude in Gamble's body.
I like Marshall right now over Gamble at CB because of Marshall's attitude. I see him giving it everything he's got constatly to make a play plus it look like he plays pissed off. I like that.
I love Mike Minter but this is a business and I said it when we resigned him. That year Mike turned the cornor and started on a decline. All the blame can't be put directly on him. He's had to be a lone vet in the past helping young teammates and moving him from free to strong constantly can't help. Mike's never been a great cover safety but I can't remember him getting beat as badly in the past as he has been over the last 2 years. He's probably good for one more year, then maybe another as a backup but I'd like to see his replacement here before we say goodbye to him.
Geez, thinking about these guys individually I cant' believe we're as bad as we are. Opinions?
