No. Steroids are banned for a reason. There are asthma medicines that don't have them. If they arent strong enough for him, then he can't play. We can't have players having an advantage, and he does, on steroids, even if they have a reason to be on them.

And yes, that inhaler does give him an advantage.

This has been an issue in the Olympics for 30 years. In 1972 an American swimmer got bounced for the exact same thing. Its still the rule there.

Steroids used in asthma medication are not Anabolic steroids. The are Corticosteroids and are not performance enhancing in any way. It's the same thing as hydrocortisone, which I doubt is banned by the NFL.

The substance he tested positive to according to the articles I've read isn't on the list of banned substances as far as I can tell

Unless he and the team doctor are just plain lying and he was taking a banned substance it was a false positive cuased by the legal drugs he was taking.

That's interesting Chip. If they can distinguish, then he should play. But they can't throw their analbolic steriod testing program away, which letting a loophole in would do, for an unusual case. The doctor doesn't know that Hollis hasn't taken anabolic steroids on top of the cortico ones. Probably not, but this is a program that just can't have loopholes. I'm wishing him luck, though.

Edit: Players are shot up with hydrocorisone all the time for inflammation. Another interesting part of this story.
