Ron Rivera's demeanor and approach

I admit I've been one of the DC haterz, but in the first 10 minutes of Ron's Q & A's, I'm impressed.

First: 10 whole minutes, and not one single utterance of "it is what it is". Seriously, he makes substantive statements. For example, he just made a comment on tackling: "I'm sick and tired of watching guys just make head butts..." He sure has been watching the same Panthers I've been watching.

Second, he's not shying away from issues, he's not sugar-coating it, and he seems to know the plusses and minuses of this team. He speaks with animation, something none of his three predecessors ever did in their pressers.

I'm more optimistic than I was half an hour ago. Far more.

Sharp is the word I'd use too. Very sharp, very smart, very articulate.

Even his analysis of Jimmy Clausen was well-done: he brought some optimism, but he left the door open to another starting QB. I mean, Clausen's not his guy, and having to answer questions about his ability (or lack thereof) and future his first day in the environment isn't easy. He really seems to look realistically and analytically at every situation placed in front of him.

I also lilke the way he admitted he'll stick his nose into his DC's bidness quite a bit, but he'll "stick with what he knows": that is, maybe he'll actually let a decent OC (if we get one) run his offense. There's a reason why the offense didn't change one iota when we replaced Henning with Davidson, yet Henning's offense under a different HC suddenly looked credible. That redason is spelled "F-O-X".
