UPDATE: A NFL head coach could be in Cal's cross hairs. Carolina Panthers' coach Ron Rivera is on the hot seat and may be dismissed after the season. He would then make a prime target for the Golden Bears.

"An alum and member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Rivera was an All-American linebacker for Cal who still holds the school record for tackles-for-loss in a season," BearTerritory.Net noted. "His NFL career and coaching pedigree are impressive, as he constructed some of the NFL's best defenses during his time in both Chicago and San Diego. Has coached both a 4-3 and 3-4 defense, and his defensive acumen could be very desirable in the pass-happy Pac-12 Conference."

A sticking point for a potential hire of Rivera is selling the school's boosters on a recently fired NFL coach -- if he's eventually dismissed in Carolina.

 

What if he quits? What was the loser in Atlanta Bobby Perino? Maybe he just walks away.
