Quiet morning - Mock draft

Since its a quiet morning i'll throw this out for mindless chatter.

I participated in a 7 round mock draft (6 rounds down) rounds 1-3 were March 6th. so I started with what I new last week.

round 1.
Sean Jones FS
seemed like it would be an obvious need.

round 2.
Nate Dorsey OT
Figuring a long term replacement for Steussie (best laid plans of mice and men), he can battle Meadows for the start now.

round 3.
Shawntae Spencer CB
outstanding return man who has the game to be an above average starter

round 4.
James Newson WR
looked at several WR here, he just seemed the best fit, I nearly wen't with Cotchery

round 5.
Richard Siegler MLB
Excellent depth, can fill at any LB position.

round 6.
Tony Bua LB/FS
Coop with control...

round 7
looking at guard/TE/BPA

If we land Vincent and plug him at free safety then we can draft a wide out in round one if we want. We can get a decent guard and corner prospect in rounds two and three. Wesley and Hawkins can battle for the starting spot at corner. They can not be much of a drop from Howard. Vincent will probably be a step up from Grant. Not a bad scenerio IMHO.

Nothing against your mock Wp, but drafting where we are and with the holes we have, I think value really goes out the window. Fox and Hurney have shown they aren't above doing it either. Nelson and Seidman were both reaches and as good as Manning turned out to be, giving up three picks for him was a bit too much.

We could luck into a guy like Jones being there at 31 or he may be gone. We could overlook some postions such as TE or WR because while they are slots where we need improvement, they may not be as big a priority as they we just a week ago. Do we draft a G like Snee way early because he fills a need and end up overpaying value wise? Quite possible. Do we hope that either Wesley's ready to step up or Hawkins is the answer in the meantime and look for a backup/developmental type at CB instead of a starter pushing the CB pick later? Just trying to give you something to consder here that's all.

I never go more than 3 rounds with mine, so I'll just comment on those. I would use other players, but I think DB, OL, DB is right for the 3 spots.

Unless someone falls, I think whoever we take at 31 will be a reach. Ive never seen Jones mocked in the 1st round, so I bet he will be there. At this moment I'm thinking Matt Ware. Straight ran a 4.55 in his workout, so he would be a reach there too. In the second, I'd take a G, (Snee, Smiley, Locklear, whoever is there or take your pick), but OT would be good too. There should be some good choices left. I doubt any of the ones that look good will be there in the 3rd.

The draft seems to be deep enough for another DB in round 3 too. Whoever is left.

Its possible we could go WR in one of those spots, but I think the ones available in the 1st will have question marks. I'd rather draft a player with question marks at a postion we really need.

Those first 2 picks would be golden. Assuming we do get a CB in FA - I'd grab my WR in round 3. Darling, Colbert or Wilford the targets. If all are gone, I'd look for a G.

Later in the draft I'd look for some speed guys that maybe can return kicks and make the team to add a weapon. Josh Davis (Nebraska), Jason Geathers or Micheal Waddell would be late round guys (6 or 7) with speed that could help later if they could contribute on special teams and make the team.

:xyzthumbs That would be a fantastic draft IMO (though I’d rather have Cotchery but he’ll be gone by our 4th). Dorsey could project to starter at RT or G by ’05. Jones and Spencer might be starters before then. I’ll take it, especially if Seidman steps up and we can get a #3 QB in the 7th instead of that TE pick we have such a hard time with.

Instead of Newsome in round 4 I'd keep on eye on Samie Parker from Oregon. He has gotten better and better every year and the guy has world class speed. Can be KR as well. I'd target Parker in round 4 and get S,CB and OL in round 1-3.

Totally agree. Reaches will abound this year and we'll be passing up some damn good playmakers in the name of solidarity up front. Sound familiar?

So meanwhile, I'll say that the draft WP put up was good, but he locked onto his guys too much. Spencer IMO was a round too early, while we could use a CB there I think Spencer isn't rated that high. Randy Jordan?

I might make a couple of you piss in your pants but I'd have taken Cotchery over Newson.
