Insiders say the Panthers couldn’t be more excited about the versatility of rookie Bruce Nelson, who has played four of the five OL positions since the start of training camp. Head coach John Fox knew that the second-round pick had the skills to move around on the line, but he wasn’t certain that Nelson would be able to pick up the nuances of playing each position during training camp. But Nelson has stunned coaches with the way he has absorbed the offense and been comfortable at each position. Nelson has joked that he could be playing quarterback by the time it is all said and done, but Fox doesn’t consider Nelson’s ability to play multiple positions a laughing matter. Fox believes that Nelson will allow the Panthers to adjust on the fly when one lineman is having a bad day, plugging in the rookie to allow the vets to get their head together on the sideline for a few plays. The only position Nelson hasn’t played is right tackle, mostly because the Panthers want to give first-round pick Jordan Gross as much time at the position as possible.

The more I get to know Fox the more I like him.
I think thats pretty sharp if you can pull off having a quality guy that can fill any hole.

I'm liking our situation on the o-line, and looking for lots of yards from Davis and dare I say Foster

I wish we had one for the d-line like that, that Jenkins thing skeered me.

The Giants' d-line is much better than the deadskins', so that'll be a neat test.

It raves about his versatility, which we knew. I don't see anything extraordinary, or at all, being said about his actual play.

But, I didn't expect to see him play this year anyway. Next year, the time he got in this year should be a benefit.

It is a given that Nelson will play this year. Probably spot play initially, but we all know someone will get banged up and he'll be the guy to fill the opening. His versatility and intellegence is well known in my nick o' the woods.
His pure strength has always been a concern, which is why he ended up at center...that and his smarts. However, he plays stronger than he shows in the weight room.
