Heard an interview with Charlie Casserly of the Texans on the way back from mini camp today and he said the practice squad goes from 5 players to 8 players this year. That gives us some options, but I need some other questions answered if any one can help me.

1.Were there any changes to the number of players you're allowed to keep on your roster (53) vs the Active Roster (45 + the 3rd QB for game day)?

2.What's the elibility rule for the PS experience wise?

3.Who do we have in camp that has to make the roster outright to keep his job because they are ineligible for the PS?

I'm pretty sure Baker and Hampton are on that list, as is Tillman.

But I really don't know.

I THINK Young could qualify for the PS.

1. no
2. can't be on a PS if you've been on for two years previous; can't be on a PS if you've accrued a season's experience (9 or more games active). You can be considered to ahve been on a PS for a year if you spent at least three regular/postseason weeks on the squad.

3. see above, apply to roster

From CBA:

"The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than one previous season on a Practice Squad: (i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during their only Accrued Season(s). No player may be a practice squad player for more than two seasons."

"For the purposes of calculating Accrued Seasons under this Agreement, a player shall receive one Accrued Season for each season during which he was on, or should have been on, full pay status for a total of six or more regular season games..."

1. didn't think so, but asked anyway to be sure

2. that leaves us primarily this years rooks, most of last year's PS, the NFLE guys, plus Young, Moore, Moorehead (?), Ciurciu, and Hugo correct?

yeah, I'd guess. Moore definitely, Moorehead and Young it depends on how many active games naturally. Whether they played or not, I believe, is irrelevant. Would be a big kick in the pants to any of these guys who've seen it come easy and year two isn't so fucking hot.

Having 8 guys means you can have a much more lively scout team. All these little athletic slash guys will be making their $4000/week running around being Vick or whoever.

Young played in 7 games, so he definitely "should have been on, full pay status for a total of six or more regular season games..." Probably Morehead too.
