Posting pics

I have tried to post a lot of pic on the board that it tells me are too big to post. They didn't look that big to me. In fact I have noticed other people posting pics that are so big you get that damned sliding screen. Mine weren't that big.

Just now I tried to post a pic that someone else had already posted here and it told me it was too big. WTF?

NN I understand the difference in hotlinking and just attaching an image. I tried to post one of the pics Surfer had posted in his tailgating pics from the football forum. All of those were attached images and they were so big they didn't fit the screen.

But the pic I tried to post was the cartoon of the cow pole dancer. It was smaller than the rest of the pics he had posted.

I am still confused.
