Post-draft holes; veteran FA needs

I have to say for once the Brass did tend to steer toward needs instead of BPA. That is, in part, because we didn't have too many voids (certainly not many for starters) going into the draft and adding players to already deep positions wouldn't make too much sense even if they are the highest rated player the the board. This would be an ideal siutation every year!

That said, what position would you care to see a veteran or two added for competition? With Delhomme extented, we have some cap room for some minor additions.

I wouldn't mind seeing a C/OG, DE or DT backup signed between now and training camp. I think all the other positions are covered, IMO.

If you think we still need more depth, then at what spot and who?

it'd be nice to pull a big vet DT and a vet OT, and then we're relatively solid.

I think we're good at DE, even without Peppers. Without him, we'd have a dressing four of Brown/Taylor and Brayton/Johnson; with Peppers in, Taylor might not have a roster spot. And of that quartet, it's two #1s, a #2, a #3.

If a DT becomes available I'd be happy. Not really sold on Irvin yet but only watched a few Georgia games. Not sure who would become available. Someone along the lines of Darwin Walker last year I'm assuming. Just thinking out loud here, but Miami just released John Beck. Wondering how much we really like Matt Moore to possibly take a look at him.

edit- just saw the Falcons cut Kindal Moorehead. Decent depth and could probably be had for cheap.

We did get Cantwell who most sites rated 7th-10th best QB prospect. His scouting report makes him sound like a Dehlomme clone, yet younger. Can make the throws, strong arm, nice size etc... The knocks; poor decision making and doesn't feel pressure in the pocket.

I've been looking and there's not a lot of talent left out there. Defensive end by far has the most to choose from. Some names that stood out which have produced and still have some play left (excluding Taylor--never happen) are Kalimba Edwards, Ekuban, Holliday and Udeze.

The DT, C and OG pickings are pretty slim. Evan Mathis is available--any takers?

We have officially splashed into the FA market signing center Justin Geisinger (Washington) and Marcus Monk (Giants). Monk apparently got cut when the Giants signed Taye Biddle off our practice squad.

That might not be a bad idea. He was decent depth when we still had him.

Brown isn't one-dimensional and I really don't get your issue with this.
