Panthers sign Pittman, Walker

The Carolina Panthers have re-signed unrestricted free agent defensive end Kavika Pittman and have signed free agent defensive tackle Rod Walker, the team announced Monday.
Pittman played in two games for the Panthers in 2003 and had one tackle before suffering a season-ending knee injury at Tampa Bay. Signed as a free agent in 2002 from the Denver Broncos, Pittman is entering his ninth season in the NFL.
Walker, who spent the previous three seasons with Green Bay, started six games for the Packers, including five in 2002. He was on Tennessee's practice squad when the Titans played in Super Bowl XXXIV.
Walker, 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds, brings a reputation as a run stopper to the Panthers rotation at defensive tackle. He spent the first half of the 2003 season as the primary backup at nose tackle for the Packers. He started in place of the injured Gilbert Brown at St. Louis and recorded a career-high four tackles before suffering shoulder and knee injuries in that game and eventually being placed on injured reserve.
Walker, 28, was originally signed by Washington as an undrafted free agent in 1999. He was waived by the Redskins and signed by the Titans to their practice squad that season. He started the next season on the Titans practice squad before being promoted to their active roster late in the year. He was resigned by the Titans the following year, who traded him to the Packers for a conditional draft choice.
