If someone could kindly tell me how to fix the opposing problems, I would be so appreciative;

1) D: works fine and dandy until I try to load software. My printer software runs it's course midway, and decides it's quittin time.

2) A: The green light comes on, but nobody's home-it will not work. (I would conclude that this needed replacing if the green light did not come on)(just a thought).

I just reformatted the PC the other night. Complete and utter RF, a clean sweep if you will.

So now nothing wants to work except the internet. I am not computer savvy, but I am somewhat knowledgeable, if someone could explain what I need to look for ie; open the pc, etc..
TIA~

Is D: the CD Drive or another hard drive? For what its worth, if you've got access to the internet, you've got everything you need. Because if the PC isn't working there are files SOMEWHERE on the net for what you need.

A tip:
Since you've reformatted you should go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all of the updates. It'll take a few times rebooting and if you don't have high speed it could take all day, but in the grand scheme of things it'll be def. worth it.

First put on a pair of safety glasses, then take a hammer (preferably 22oz. or more) and begin swinging at the A: drive. When the light goes out take aim at the case and cd-rom. If you don't feel any better by then smash the mouse and keyboard just because.

First: Don't EVER take any of Brain's advice on computers.

Second: If your printer software quits halfway through the install, it could be any number of things:

  • the software may have problems
  • the CD may be dirty and needs to be cleaned
If the CD drive works for some part of the install, it's likely that the drive isn't the problem. Else it wouldn't work in the first place.

Seriously, run the Windows updates. And if it's an HP printer, go to www.hp.com and look up the printer. Odds are if it's a software problem, they've got a fix or a workaround for the install problem.

Thanks y'all.:D

Here's what I did. I have an external CD Burner, loaded the software. Guess what it loads perfectly. Go figure. I would love to upgrade this pc, but money is an issue. Maybe you and and Brain can fix it for me..:woohoo: .

Thank you for the advice, I will retain this information for further use(s). :)
