Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has agreed in principle to a new contract that makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history.


The contract is worth $99.2 million over seven years, ESPN.com has learned through league sources. Manning's per-year average salary will be $14.17 million, an NFL benchmark.


Manning's deal, completed early Tuesday morning, includes a record $34.5 million signing bonus. The life of the deal is nine years, but the final two will be voided if Manning, who has yet to miss a game in his professional career, simply reaches league minimum playing time standards.


He can earn an additional $19 million in incentives.

well he gets his money, and I hope the colts enjoy giving every dime of it. They just tied up a whole quarter of their cap in one damn player. No one is worth that much money..especially a QB that contantly blows in the playoffs.

This reminds me of when Shinn payed that big contract to JR and all of a sudden the the lid came off the salarys for all the NBA players. All it takes is a couple idiots and then every athelete is going to come in thinking he should have his own jet airplane, he should be a millionaire. When they should be thinking they could be moving microwave ovens and color TVs.

That's pretty neat. I'm gonna have to use that on my taxes.
(it's 17.5%, and if there's any doubt for any of you math majors 1/4 is 25%)

Nonetheless, cutting Edge is damned silly.
