I'd prefer Davis but Emmitt would probally be a 1100 yard back here and for the right contract I would like to sign him for 2 maybe 3 seasons. Emmitt is still better than anyone we have (Deshaun may be better if he's 100%).
I gotta say no to Emmit. I'll never deny his greatness, even though I have always dispised the Cowgirls. Emmit was a great one. What 13 seasons and only missed 6 or 7 games. (lots of mileage).
Now Davis, half the mileage with the same proven ability to bust 1300 yards a season more than once.
I forgot why Davis missed 4 games last year? I assume that is 100% OK now?
I'm ready to move forward with this offense, not patchwork for a year, maybe 2... especially at QB and RB.
Signing Emmitt would just further delay our growth. He is at the end of his career ala Reggie White. We don't need him to look like 65% of his old self for maybe 2 years. Just say no
He buys us a year to see if Foster returns or if we need to draft a RB next year. He would come in and Smith would get cut so he's really not costing us anything.
I would bring in Emmitt if we can't sign Davis... make him a Plan-B to Davis... he's not what I'd prefer here... FAR too old, but may be a viable option to get us through to next years draft where the RB crop is expected to be better... I think we'll take our shot at Davis first.
It is all about the price with Emmitt. If he would sign for near the minimum I would do it. I put him in the same class as Ricky Watters last year. He has a little bit left but no long term value. I think Foster will never play again and Lamar Smith should be cut. Dee Brown is a back up at best. We have to find a tail back and the draft is thin. If we can not sign Stephen Davis then we are going to be hurting. Tyronne Wheatly intrigues me. I think I would rather sign him than Smith because he would be dirt cheap and is younger and bigger.
