ERFAs have nothing. They immediately sign the tender because they have no other choice.

RFAs - minimum tender, they get original compensation. Salley would be a 5th round pick.
Exceptions - second round tender costs more, obvious to the compensation. Same for the first round, and first/third round.

And here I was all nervous that we were going to let Salley get away. And Mathis. What's his deal. They put him in. He sucks. He rides the bench a bit and they start him again. Wow, he still sucks. Man, we really need to upgrade that RG spot.

• The Panthers recently restructured the contracts of cornerback Ken Lucas and defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu. The new deals likely included converting some of their base salaries to guaranteed money so a portion could be prorated into future seasons to create cap room.

Kemoeatu's base salary dropped from $1.9 million to $605,0000, and Lucas' went from $1.3 million to $800,000. -- Charles Chandler

• Carolina tendered one-year offers to restricted free agent offensive linemen Geoff Hangartner ($1.43 million) and Evan Mathis ($927,000) and linebacker Adam Seward ($927,000).

Other teams can sign them to an offer sheet, but Carolina would have the right to match.

As compensation, teams would have to give a second-round pick for Hangartner, a third for Mathis and a fifth for Seward. -- C.C.
