New Orleans 18, *Carolina 14 -- Carolina has established itself as a team that makes big plays on defense. The Panthers led the NFL with 38 takeaways, but New Orleans is equal to the task defensively with a league-leading 20 fumble recoveries in 2004. Both teams are strong against the pass, which could result in an emphasis on the run, which favors the Saints.

I am predicting more of a Saints 31 Panthers 21 score.

Not as strong as they probably should be. Both teams have "talent" back there, but it doesn't always translate on the field. Carolina has been down-right sorry when it comes to covering up a TE, or a slot reciever. I won't be suprised if both QB's have 300+ yard performances.

If New Orleans plans to use pass rushing linemen on every down, I'd like to think it favors us.

Your heart just has to go out to all those in New Orleans. I don't know how these players are going to be able to focus on a game with everything that is going on. Brooks will be erratic, Deuce will be solid, and the Saints will hang some decent yards. Carolina at home will light up the poor Saints' D. The Saints' D gives it up like a girl gone wild and Jake Delhomme will take it. Stephen Davis is the supposed starter...I have no idea why. He's got an erector set holding his knee together and he has had all of 3 carries in the last year...I'll believe it when I see it. Panthers take this one at home.

Our run defense is what I am most worried about. If Davis is better then a high school running back then he will have great success. Like most games this one tends to be decided by a turnover or two. Always hard to gauge teams in week 1.

I do not see how a run game contest favors the Saints. Yea Mcallister is better than any back we have but our run D is a whole lot better than the Saints. They could not stop anyone from running on them last year.
