Panther Needs - Rank em

Here are the Panthers needs for this yr and beyond (order of importance):

1) OT - No depth behind Tuten or Stuessie and Tuten should probably be a backup anyway. #1 need ATP.
2) QB - Even though we have signed Delhomme for 2 yrs and Peete for 3yrs - there is no sure indication that either are franchise type QBs. To depend on only those 2 would be foolish.
3) DT - No quality depth behind Buckner and Jenkins. 1 more stud DT would be great for the front seven.
4) WLB - A quality OLB is needed to man the weakside. There are candidates but a speedie big play weakside guy could complete a dominating starting front seven.
5) CB - I still think we need a starting shutdown level corner. ATP it makes sense to spend a pick sooner than later on this position. There are developmental guys in the wings who might just turn out ok.
6) Kicker - I still believe kicker is a bit shakey and am not completely satisfied with Kasay or Graham. Graham sticks if we choose between the 2 however.
7) TE - Heinrich, Mangum and Wiggins are all skilled and have potential but are not complete TEs at this point.

I don't see WR as big a need atp. Dyson, Muhammed, Smith and Proehl are a good group. FB is solid with Hoover who I like a lot. RB is suddenly fairly deep especially with the news that Foster might just contribute this year.

Safety would be one other area of concern but I'm wondering if Fox might not try Anderson there when he returns. He has decent size and would help there quicker than CB IMO.

Tackle - One position where competency and depth is lacking

Wide Reciever - We are still very iffy at this position. Moose ain’t getting younger or cheaper. Dyson is inconsistent and injury prone. Prohel is going to be collecting Social Security soon. Smith may be the least popular guy in the Panther lockerroom.

Quarterback - In the end, tell me the difference between Delehomme and Peterson a few years back.

Guard - A little old here too.

Tight End – We could use some impact here

DT – We could use some depth and a possible Buckner replacement.


OLB – May have gotten this one with Favors, we’ll see.

Safety – Gets rid of Richardson.

No one knows the difference now. After we see JD play there may or may not be an enourmous difference which based on other team needs is why I'd rather not roll the dice at that position with an early draft pick...

No one knew the difference then either. Peterson had similar successes in limited action. A lot of the Philly fans were saying the same thing you said. Which was why they were chanting the name “Ricky” at the draft, and booed when McNabb’s name was called.

OT is a bigger need, but if Lefty falls, we can get a starting RT in round 2 with Hunter, Stitchcomb, or Foster.

Dude - I have to question how much better Gross or Harris will be than any of those guys that could be there in the second. I just don't see Gross or Harris or Stienbach as dominating as some of the OT we have seen in the past 3 or so drafts.

Gross is good and super versitile and should be a quality guy wherever you put him - but to me, he just isn't as awe inspiring as other top 10 OTs picks.

Leftwich is better than any 2nd round QBs - that is fact.

A pass on Leftwich would be regreted for as long as he plays in the league. Shoot - I think he is the best PLAYER in the draft period! Don't freaken pass on em - PLEASE CATS!

That's my thing too.

Gross is more developed and more solid all around, but he’s the least athletic. JS is a second rounder cause he isn’t very big, but he is strong in his upper body and is the best pass protector. Foster is a big and strong right tackle type, but Harris is above him because of all the time he missed. And Hunter is a small school guy from Hawaii who is rising due to athletic ability and skill. The difference between him and Gross, beyond being a bit more developed, is Gross hype starter earlier.

FS - Grant has struggled when it counts.

WR is stacked deep.

Plus taking Lefty takes Simms out of the picture. I really don't want Simms.

Even if the guy turns out to be a decent QB he will never be more than a Kerry Collins type QB. Ok and puts up decent numbers but nobody gives a damn. Strikes fear in no one and when the big game is on the line - they choke and you lose.

Please don't pick Chris Simms. Please. Gimmie Ragone but fuck Simms.

Oh and that George Foster guy should be scooped up immediately if he makes the second. Huge guy with a ton of upside. You're right Piper - if he doesn't miss a lot of injury time he might be above Gross. His ceiling is huge.

-OG- Donnally is getting old and no quality depth behind Bzrezinski

-TE- I would perfer a big blocking TE like Jumbo Elliott for the Jets before he permantly became an OG

-CB- Taller, faster and younger (than Cousin anyway in age)

-LB- I'm not sure if Fields is the long-term answer...depth at any rate

-QB- A guy to groom for two-three years down the road
