Our starting TE next year??

10:46 PT: Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers second-year TE Keith Heinrich (foot) is progressing rather well with his rehabilitation. "Its feeling good," says Heinrich. "It's feeling really good. I'm starting to run. I ran today. Hopefully, I should be ready by our May mini-camp."

I'm personally leaning toward drafting a TE. My favorite is one of the TEs from Auburn, Robert Johnson I believe. He's only a junior but has ideal size for a blocking TE. Not overly fast, but he does have good reception skills. He's one stout dude and has the body of a OG rather than a WR in comparison to the TE duites. That is what Fox is wanting and Heinrich is in the exact same mold as Walls...so is Mangum for that matter. A 6th OL is what Fox essentially is wanting to run power formations to one side or the other.

No he's NOT!!! Heinrich is a blocking TE... he always has been... Walls is a recieving TE. And the Panthers drafted him last year... he was already being used with the second unit when he got hurt... why would you even suggest him to be a recieving TE its not even his forte

In mold I meant stature. I know that is the reason we drafted him last season but I don't think he's able to take on DEs 20+ pounds heavier than he is. Mangum is supposed to be a blocking TE too but is blown off the ball many times. I just think having a TE at around 275 would suit this offense better than a tall, slender guy, that's all.

88 Franks, Bubba TE 6-6 263 25 4 Miami (Fla.)

Those two are arguably the 2 best BLOCKING TEs in the NFL right now... NEITHER of them are NEAR 275lbs as a matter of fact Heinrich only 7 lbs lighter... I want you to FIND me a better blocking TE than Franks or Sloan that weights 275 or more... or hell find one EQUALLY as good at that weight.

Robert Johnson is listed from 265 to 270 but those are 'kind' weights for him. It sounds like you are getting in a fizz Brain, I just feel that a heavier TE would serve our offense better, it's just an opinion. There is nothing wrong with Heinrich but I think a bigger guy would fit better. Mangum is not going to be in Carolina much longer, IMHO, so I think drafting a big, blocking TE to suppliment Hienrich and to give the position depth is beneficial.
He's projected to go in rounds 4-5, so it isn't like we would be sacrificing a need position to get him anyway.

And outta ALL the teams in the NFL... that's ALL the TEs that are 270 and up... and what's sad... I only see 2 MAYBE 3 I would start... some wouldn't even make my roster... so what makes these lard asses all that great to you that you classify them in a group of their own??? Furthermore if we go with YOUR 275 designation the list gets a LOT smaller... and MUCH worse

He may not be instant starting material, but this guy is TOUGH. He would be a perfect 2nd tight end for 2 TE sets. State coaches could not get this guy off of the field when he was injured towards the end of the season. He's like an extra oline man. He's tough and nasty and will punch you in the mouth. Yet he is a deceptively good reciever that Phil Rivers looked to often. This guy would be PERFECT to open up holes for Davis, and he should be around in later rounds. Trust me Panther fans, you would LOVE this guy. I know I'm biased, but this guy transfered to State and played only one full season, but he became an instant fan favorite and team MVP and crucial piece of the Pack's Gator Bowl run and victory.

I do... for one it was Jamar Nesbit... 2 he is a free agent and we probably won't resign him since we signed Brzenzski
