Orlando Pace has been placed on injured reserve, and his 2006 season is officially over. Pace sustained a torn triceps in Sunday's loss to Seattle, and ESPN is reporting that the team has decided to shelf their Pro-Bowl tackle for the rest of the season.

Our View
Not only did the Rams lose pace in their division this weekend by falling to the Seahawks, but they have lost Pace now as well. The entire offense suffers when a great player like this is sidelined, so adjust your expectations for the entire Rams offense accordingly

Notebook: Rams off the Pace

CHARLOTTE — The St. Louis Rams lost perennial Pro Bowl left tackle Orlando Pace to a season-ending arm injury over the weekend, leaving Rams head coach Scott Linehan scratching his head a little as to what to do now.

“You don’t replace Orlando,” Linehan said. “You put another guy in there and you challenge everybody on the team to step up and help.”

At some point, Linehan wants to move starting right tackle Alex Barron over to left tackle, but added this may not be the week to do it. Barron may need to stay at right tackle to block Carolina’s Julius Peppers, who was named this week’s NFC Defensive Player of the Week and leads the league with 11 sacks.

“I’m not sure we have enough time to talk about all the problems he presents us,” said Linehan of Peppers during a conference call on Wednesday. “Between him and that whole front, that defense and that secondary it is hard to focus on him but you have to because he can wreck the game before you ever even get to your fifth step on a drop on a pass.

“Plus, he’s now starting to blow up the running game. I’m not sure there is a weakness. I think you have to always know how you are going to set the guy. If you make one little mistake, we could be in trouble. Hopefully we can negate that as much as we can.”

If Barron stays at right tackle, then Pace’s primary backup Adam Goldberg will get the start at left tackle. Linehan said both players will work at left tackle this week and he’ll make a decision by Friday.

The Rams other offensive tackle is none other than ex-Panther Todd Steussie.
